Five Great Aftermarket Parts for Your New Land Rover Defender

Although the storied marque of the Land Rover Defender vehicles dates back almost 80 years, the latest and fully-revamped generation (L663) was only released recently in 2020. The Defender has always been equipped for serious adventure, and with the newest iteration, Land Rover made great strides to keep that spirit alive and allow for the maximum amount of customization that a potential owner would want to employ. By swapping accessories around, an owner can tailor their Defender to be the ultimate around-town family hauler, or gear it up for some more remote expeditions.

No matter which flavor of the new Defender you might own (90, 110, 130), each vehicle is offered from the factory with four accessory packs: Explorer, Adventure, Country, and Urban. These each contain a unique combination of factory accessories tailored to how an owner primarily expects to use their Defender. These include roof racks, bumpers, external panniers mounted to the C-pillars, and more. Perhaps you’ve chosen the Urban pack and would like to add a roof rack. Or, perhaps you’re kitted out with the Adventure pack and would like a few refinements and creature comforts to employ around town. We’ll take you through the five best aftermarket parts and accessories for any new Land Rover Defender.

Low-Profile Voyager Offroad Roof Rack

The Voyager Offroad Overland Roof Rack is a beautiful and functional full-length roof rack, constructed of bent and welded tubing. Obviously, this provides a plethora of opportunities to mount cargo shells, kayaks, bicycles, or anything else you might want to transport, but its low profile and sleek design will help keep your Defender looking great around town, too. This low-profile model is two inches lower than the standard height, which is also a benefit for garage-kept vehicles. What’s more, these are fully compatible with Defenders equipped with sunroofs. This roof rack takes advantage of the Land Rover-provided mounting points and there’s no drilling required to mount, so you can take off the rack at a later date if you ever wish to. Combine this with the Land Rover Deployable Roof Ladder for easy access to anything stowed on your roof. This is a good option for those who may not have ordered their Defender with a roof rack from the factory.

Land Rover Quilted Loadspace Liner

Anyone who has had to take their four-legged friend in a car will understand the potential for disaster that can arise when transporting your most precious cargo; from pet hair everywhere to the aftermath of an upset tummy, it can result in a real mess inside your nice, new Land Rover. Thankfully, a great solution to this problem is available in the Quilted Loadspace Liner, another official Land Rover accessory. A svelte and padded fabric protects the cargo area, rear seats, and comes with a detachable bumper protector. Designed to be durable and easy to clean, this accessory is something to take a closer look at if you regularly travel with your dogs or other animals. Being that this liner is precisely fitted to conform to the interior, it should be noted that this is currently only available for the Defender 110 model as of press time. If this is relevant to your interest, Land Rover also makes a few more pet-focused accessories as well, such as a portable pet ramp.

WeatherTech Floor Mats

It might be a little cliché, but one of the first modifications many new owners of any vehicle make is to replace the factory floor mats with a set of iconic, custom-molded WeatherTech mats. Laser cut from a durable rubberized material to match the exact layout of the Defender, these floor mats make it easy to keep the interior of your car looking great. When it’s time to clean up, simply remove them, spray with a hose, and let them dry. WeatherTech incorporates lips and channels in order to keep any water or mud contained to the mats. These are available for the front and rear seats, and there’s even a custom fitted trunk liner available. WeatherTech has been around for decades; these are quality items that are made in the United States, and won’t let you down under the harshest of conditions.

Land Rover Side-Mounted Gear Carrier

Add a bit of visual flair and practicality with these OEM Land Rover accessories. Mounted to the exterior sides of the vehicle, it provides a little extra space for things you might not want to bring inside the cabin, such as beach towels or pet supplies. It’s lockable and waterproof as well, so you have nothing to worry about while you’re out and about. You can have one on each side for the most amount of storage, or you could have Gear Carrier on one side of the car, combined with the aforementioned Roof Ladder; this is part of the beauty of the new Defenders. Since these are manufacturer accessories, you can anticipate the same high level of fit and finish in these gear carriers that you are used to, and they’re designed to seamlessly blend in with the exterior styling of the vehicle.

ARB Touring Awning with Light

Add a bit of overlanding flair to your Defender with a high-quality retractable awning from ARB. Known for making bomb-proof Land Rover accessories for decades, ARB’s awning provides you with portable shade and shelter. Useful for a day at the beach or a camping trip in the forest, this awning is easy to set up and built tough to handle high winds or heavy precipitation. Once you get a taste of how handy they are, you won’t want to go anywhere without your portable awning.

Conclusion

As you can see, the new Defenders were designed keeping a strong eye on customization and personalization to suit each owner’s tastes. While a fine selection of accessories are available from the manufacturer when the car is ordered, a robust secondary market also provides a great service to those looking for a wider array of parts. As this platform ages gracefully, more accessories and creative solutions will continue to hit the market, and if we had to take a guess, this could be the most personalized Land Rover ever at the end of the day. Ultimately, no matter if you’re seeking the refinement and luxury that Land Rover is known for, or planning a trip to the Arctic Circle, the Land Rover Defender can get you there – however you want.

Three-Door Land Rover Defender 110 CGI Pickup Looks Like a Fun Little Jungle Truck

Although it has been derided by many for its new focus on the posh 4WD lifestyle, the L663 Land Rover Defender has slowly but steadily gained a foothold across the automotive industry.

The great OEM projects, from the most recent 75th Limited Edition Defender 90 and 110s to the Defender V8, were, of course, in big part responsible for the public’s acceptance. But the same can be said about the virtual automotive realm, which has also stocked all sorts of dreams of Defender greatness.

So, we have seen gloriously humongous stuff like a Defender 130 that morphed into the right kind of dune-bashing, jungle-dwelling pickup truck, and now the Defender 110 is also transformed into a utilitarian vehicle. Albeit this time there is a three-door CGI twist to the story, as well.

Remember Mo Aoun, the virtual artist better known as moaoun_moaoun on social media, who is now a Creative Designer at Stellantis’ American arm composed of Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, and Dodge? Well, he continues to also show his personal CGI projects – with a renewed focus on off-road, thankfully. And so, here is a greenish take (quite close to the 75th-anniversary edition, right?) on a hypothetical Land Rover L663 Defender pickup truck that seems to only dream of extreme off-road adventures.

Why the Defender 110 and not the 90, one might ask? Well, primarily because that is what the author mentioned in the description’s hashtag reel. But, also, because it might be a little more inviting (even with a digitally shortened wheelbase) to the hardcore transformation than its smaller sibling – taking into account all the additional off-road parts both seen and unseen.

By the way, this is neither the artist’s first take on a Land Rover nor the most original off-road SUV/truck build project, as one can easily ascertain from the gallery.

2023 Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition

The new Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition is raising the bar for off-road vehicles. This SUV is packed with features that make it the perfect choice for those who love to hit the trails. With a durable design and plenty of power, the Defender Trophy Edition is sure to be a favorite among the few lucky owners.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Defender Trophy Edition is its aggressive stance. It’s clear that this SUV means business. The beefed-up frame and increased ground clearance enable the Defender to tackle any terrain.

What Does It Offer?

Under the hood, the Defender Trophy Edition is powered by a hybrid twin-charged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that delivers a somewhat impressive 395 horsepower. This SUV can produce 406 lb.-ft of torque, making it ideal for those who love to go off the beaten path.

You’ll also appreciate the 8-speed automatic transmission and the Terrain Management System™ that helps you navigate any terrain. However, what you won’t enjoy is the partly 17 city and 22 highway mpg which it offers.

The Defender Trophy Edition is available with an optional sporty interior upgrade, which adds black detailing to the seats and center console, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. What’s more, it has fog lights, which are great for cutting through the dense fog while providing increased safety on the road at night.

The SUV also includes front and rear mudflaps as well as a retractable roof ladder and electronic winch. In short, the Defender Trophy Edition is completely loaded with all of Land Rover’s off-road enhancements.

The Defender Heritage

The Land Rover Defender is, without a doubt, an off-road icon, and just like the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, it began life as a robust military vehicle for transporting soldiers to the harshest locations.

However, the Defender’s reputation is not only rooted in its military past, as much of its credibility comes from the Defender Trophy model, a series of SUVs that have crossed the most challenging terrain possible. Now Land Rover pays tribute to them with the new Defender Trophy Edition model.

Trophy Edition

“Defender Trophy Edition continues to preserve the spirit of adventure while respecting Land Rover’s rich and iconic heritage,” said Joe Eberhardt, president, and CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America.

Production will be limited to 250 units in the US, which will be based on the Defender 90 P400 model. The number 90 means it will be a shorter version, while the number 400 refers to the power of its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine and mild hybrid technology.

The vintage-inspired Defender is wrapped in a new and unique yellow foil that features classic Defender Trophy graphics and badging and is equipped with the Extended Black Exterior package, towbar, air suspension, Cold Climate Package, Off-Road package, and Land Rover’s Advanced Off-Road Capability package.

Each of these packages can be ordered for the standard Defender, but combining them all in one SUV results in a fantastic SUV.

Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system is standard and automatically detects external driving conditions, after which it adjusts the vehicle. This system can select the appropriate driving mode and electronically lock and unlock the differentials without any assistance from the driver.

This Defender is unstoppable on off-road terrain, but Land Rover leaves nothing to chance, so it equipped the SUV with a roof rack with an extendable ladder, an electric winch, fenders, an integrated air compressor, and thicker floor mats that better protect the interior from dirt.

This sets the price tag of this off-roading beauty at $95,000.

Land Rover Defender 130 Morphs Into the Right Kind of Pickup Truck, a Dune Basher

Back in spring, the new-age-posh L663 Land Rover Defender was across the news for many good reasons. Then, afterward, silence reigned. Well, that kind of treatment must stop, at least virtually

For example, in May, our always eager spy photographer partners captured a 2023 or 2024 Land Rover Defender looking all SVR when clad in camouflage and quite happy to make our acquaintance, as it lifted a wheel on the Nürburgring Nordschleife! But then, Land Rover surprised us a little bit and chose to first unveil the 2023 Defender 130 with seating for eight.

Even though it had no V8 engine option, it was still capable of taking the owner and seven of its close ones on all sorts of adventures – from rock climbing to mall crawling. Alas, silence followed afterward, which is all too dreadful, save for the occasional marketing gimmick. For example, such as the time when the Defender was said to become the moving heart of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand (October 8 through November 12).

Anyway, luckily for Land Rover Defender fans, the virtual automotive artists are relentless. So, here is the pixel master tucked behind Larson Design (aka lars_o_saeltzer on social media), who brought to life (for AutoExpress) his CGI vision of how Land Rover will make a Defender 130 useful and then decided that we should all enjoy it from the comfort of his social media reel. Not bad, frankly.

This is simply because the 2023 Land Rover Defender 130 dropped the family pretense and morphed into a veritable workhorse by way of a pickup truck transformation. And it is one complete with differently-colored tarps, with traditional white ‘steelies’ or ritzy, modern alloys, as well as the cool white top that everyone from the off-road world seems to love so much. So, does it get a CGI hall pass, or not?

This Camel Trophy 1991 Land Rover Defender 110 Shows the Right Amount of Patina

Remember when the Defender was anything but a soccer mom’s lux barge? Renamed from Ninety and One Ten to Defender 90 and Defender 110 for the 1991 model year, the body-on-frame overlanded also received a lot of publicity that same year thanks to the Tanzania-Burundi Camel Trophy.

Chassis number SALLDHMF7HA470214 is a genuine Camel Trophy car, namely the communications unit from the Tanzania-Burundi event. Repainted a few years ago, the no-nonsense truck had its outriggers repaired in 2020. The frame was treated with POR-15 rust-preventing coating in 2021, then refinished in black. Replacement panels were fitted under previous ownership, yet this truck still wears a few battle scars with pride.

Rolled over during the Camel Trophy, the Defender 110 in the featured clip shows minor finish imperfections, cracked weather-stripping, rust on the doors, a little bubbling here and there, and the usual wear and tear on the inside. The seller also notes that the rear wiper sprayer is presently kaput.

Pictured on Michelins wrapped around body-color steelies, the Landy is offered on Bring a Trailer with a non-functional rear passenger window. Backed up by a clean Carfax report and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name, this truck also comes with old UK registration documents.

A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate also needs to be highlighted, along with period campaign pics and a roof basket full of whatnots. Equipped with a snorkel and Hella driving lights, the Landy had its axles overhauled, suspension arms repaired, and shocks replaced in the past year. The bushings, brake rotors, calipers, and pads were also replaced for extra peace of mind. A right-hand-drive example of the breed, the British workhorse had its timing belt replaced in the United Kingdom in 2020. The driveshaft was also replaced, and the seller notes a reinforced rear door.

Powered by the tried-and-tested 200 Tdi 2.5-liter turbo diesel, this amazing piece of Land Rover history is currently going for $65,000 on Bring a Trailer. The online auction ends tomorrow, August 26th, at 8:05 pm.
